Rolex’s Lady DateJust collection from the Pearlmaster line gets its name from the “Pearlmaster’ bracelet, and not the dial. The Pearlmaster features closely woven chunks of 18-carat white or yellow gold, or the combination of the two with pink gold called ‘Tridor’ – the French abbreviation of ‘three golds’ (trio d’or).

 

Pearlmaster models are a tad overdressed. For instance, one model in white gold, with the sapphire-studded bezel encircling the white mother-of-pearl dial with diamond hour markers, and the bracelet set with brilliants and sapphires. Another is in yellow gold with the diamond-paved dial, and the brilliants-encrusted bracelet.

If you like simpler elegance, you might prefer another watch in the Pearlmaster line: in white gold, with black Roman numerals offset by the plain white dial, and surrounded by the bezel with brilliants (the same model is available in yellow gold). The stones on the bezel are used sparingly, so the overall look of this watch is cleaner and less fussy. Like all watches in Rolex DateJust line, the Pearlmaster models have a date display, are self-winding, and waterproof up to 300 feet (100 metres). With its Dauphin-style hands and long indexes, in both cases fluted, Zenith’s  Captain harks back unmistakably to vintage timepieces. In homage to the original model, the Zenith El Primero Captain picks up both the spirit and the aestheticism again. A thoroughbred, the chronograph has two large push-pieces on the side. Just as it did fifty years ago, technical and chronometric achievement governed  the development of this collection. The new generation technically surpasses past ones by incorporating a high-performance COSC-certified movement, the legendary El Primero caliber designed in 1969. The movement, with Côtes de Genève decoration, is visible through  a sapphire case back. On the other face, the silver sunbursst dial is surmounted by gold-plated facetted rhodium hands and indexes. The date window is positioned at six o’clock. Three chronograph sub-dials are arranged in a V at the centre, on the lower part of the dial. The watch combines simplicity with a strong identity. Dior’s Chiffre Rouge T01 (42mm) is a complication which renews the design of the Chiffre Rouge whilst respecting its DNA. This movement is the only one which can give time in both 12hour  and 24hour clock with just one index  the innovation is protected with a patent. This complication enables a direct day-night reading for the eight time zones. The correction of the time and the time zones is done with a single crown while most of the multi times movement are done with two crowns.  The movement was developed to have an animated dial, always in motion because, along with the minutes and seconds hands, the dial-back is rotating, each twelve hours the dial returns to its initial position and the 8 time zones plate completes a full tour in 24 hours. Lindbergh’s Atlantic Voyage Watch
